SHERIDAN - Private family services will be held for Mary Ann Roberts Tomkins, 71, on Wednesday, July 20, at 9 a.m. with the Rt. Rev. Kenneth Kinner officiating. Public services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with her son, the Rev. David Duprey, officiating.
She died in her sleep July 13, 2005, at her home in Sheridan.
Born March 5, 1934, in Plainfield, Conn., to Alice Jane Sykes and William Roberts, she graduated from Plainfield High School in 1952 and with the class of 1955 from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing.
Though trained as a nurse, she found her professional niche in print media as editor-in-chief of the Windham County Transcript newspaper in Connecticut. After completing her career, she continued editing several church newsletters, following her husband, the Rev. Peter B. Tomkins, to parishes in Ohio, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Arkansas. The couple moved to Sheridan three years ago to be close to her son, David Duprey, and to receive both family and medical care.
Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; three children, Jane O'Leary of Harper's Ferry, W.Va., Roberta Duprey of Pittsburgh and David Duprey of Sheridan; two stepsons; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Roberta Roberts McCoy; and one son, John Andrew Duprey.
Memorials may be made to the International Anglican Fellowship or Kata Loukan Medical Missions in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, Wyo., 82801.
Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan is handling arrangements.
