MOUNTAIN VIEW - A memorial service for Iona Martha Hayward Wall Clifford will be held today, July 20, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Mountain View.

She died July 16, 1005, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by family.

She was born June 18, 1918, to Harry Newton and Pearl Taylor Hayward in Fort Bridger.

On June 12, 1939, she married Carl John Wall in Evanston. They had three children. He preceded her in death when lightning struck him on June 6, 1944.

Later she married Doyle O. Clifford on May 1, 1949, in Robertson, and they had two children. He died of cancer Oct. 9, 1963.

She was known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who worked hard all her life, most of it as a single mother. Responsibility and a hard work ethic were very important to her, and by word and example she tried to instill these values in her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Neta Arthur and her husband of Las Vegas, Nona Gross and Martha Powers and their spouses of Lyman, Carl John Wall of Salt Lake City, and Charles Clifford and his wife of Riverton; 18 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 13 great-stepgrandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-stepgrandchild.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Holly, Cecil and Arnold Hayward; one sister, Bessie Harvey; three grandsons; and two great-grandsons.

Memorials may be made to either the Bridger Valley Hospice of First Presbyterian Church.
