It is time for Wyoming citizens to join together and demand that our two United States senators give full support to strengthen and pass the Climate Security Act (S. 2191).

This is the first bipartisan climate legislation in history to be voted out of committee. This law would reduce emissions from 25 to 32 percent, from 2005 levels, by 2025, in line with what scientists say is needed.

Big coal has already generated an estimated $50-million ad campaign in an attempt to weaken or defeat any global warming bill.

Please contact:

Sen. Enzi, 379A Senate Russell Office Building, Washington, D.C., 20510, or call, 888-250-1879 (toll-free).

Sen. Barrasso, 307 Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C., 20510, or call, 866-235-9553 (toll-free).

Tell them to make a responsible choice and vote for Climate Security Act (S. 2191). They need to dispense with their strong ties to the energy industry for a change and do what is correct for the future of their constituents.

" I guess I'll be the one to break it to you, the new climate studies show that the earth is in a cooling trend after all (guess that is why winter is hanging on). However they do not want you to quit believing in global warming jsut because it is getting cooler. Let's not try to drive the country to the brink of bankruptcy trying to achieve something that is impossible. You turn your heat off if you wish, I want to be warm. "

It includes stronger storms, increased areas of drought, etc. Sound familiar? My part of WY certainly fits the definition. I did your research for you, so please check out the highly respected organziation at this website.

" Right on, Marion. Actually, Tipi, if you paid attention to the news you would have heard that Al Gore now says that we are going into a 10-year colling cycle before we pick up on global warming. I cannot believe the gullible citizens of this nation. We will believe anything if we are told long enough. for your informaiton, many distinguished climate scientists have said that global warming is cuased by natural phenomena, not by human activity, Did you not find this in your "research" LuvYaMeanIt or did you just conveniently forget to mention it. Mr. gore's "Inconvenienct Truth" is, in all actuality, an "Inconvenient Lie." "

Although the "...caused by mankind" statement it still indoubt, the "...cool naturally" part should raise a red flag. If things "cool naturally", could they warm naturally, too? "

" marion, what new climate studies and by whom? I cannot find a website that would support your claim. They all say the same things: After a slight cooling trend 1040-1970, the average global temp has risen, continues to rise. 14 of the hottest years on record have occurred since 1990. 2007 and 1998 are the hottest years on record so far. Pray tell, Marion, how can actual temperatures be manipulated to prove global cooling? "

flounder wrote on May 4, 2008 9:48 AM:

" Marion constantly admits that he doesn't understand geoscience, as he doesn't know the difference between weather and climate, and he thinks radiometric dating of the Earth is a plot by evil computers. I get a kick out of people like flash taking something that is predicted by global warming theory and twisting the research around to make it sound like it is countering global warming theory. The cooling of North Atlantic Countries is predicted in GW theory because the salinity/density driven North Atlantic current may be short circuited due to an influx of freshwater. Flash is a known plagiarist so watch what he writes regardless. "

froid wrote on May 4, 2008 3:06 PM:

" Flash, The "may cool" statement in no way debunks global warming. For heaven's sake, North America's temperatures are leading the way for global warming. I hope the prediction is correct, but I wonder why you would so readily believe conjecture and not the data as it exists now that clearly shows the average temps of earth are and have been steeply climbing in the recent past. 2007 was the hottest year on record. "

Dewd wrote on May 5, 2008 9:49 AM:

" Some (very) basic science for those of you who seem to have forgotten theirs, such as Marion. In a fluid system that has reached dynamic equilibrium , heating in one area causes cooling in another. This is becasue of entropy ...energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. That change we see as heat rising or heat falling, induced by Motion. This is exactly how propane refrigerators work...using the heat of a flame to make stuff cold. Think of the atmosphere as a fluid ( it is) and you are halfway there. Ditto oceans. But what is being observed is a net GAIN in base temperature over along time scale. That small but incredibly crucial difference is due to the addition of Man and the Industrial Revolution... we have tipped the equilibrium , moved the triple points, and the net result is a general planet-wide warmup where change previously had occured over much longer time scales allowing equilibrium to be more graded. Human time scales are far too short to see this in one's lifetime, let alone a few seasons in Greybull, Wyoming. But there will be always be specific zones where cooling occurs as equilibrium attempts to restore itself from increasing warmth. In fact , the big deception about Global Warming is mainly in its title. If it were referred to by its proper name the confusion would diminish ...that being Global Climate Oscillation. But all the science in the world will likely not convince two Republican Senators from Wyoming to dare to challenge King Coal and Big Oil and Big Bad Gas, will it ? Again , not in our lifetimes. But it will come, eventually. "

" I wonder if the cynical " Hey Mo " who wrote in on May 4 knows that both the US Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are printed on " hemp products" , paper made from Hemp stalk fiber , and that George Washington among others grew hemp as a cash crop, early American bank notes were printed on hemp paper, and that the US Navy would've been powerless without hemp rope crash-cultivated in the Deep South after the Philippines fell in WWII. Hemp is a fabulous plant with a myriad of uses , but it is not cannabis. And I do not believe Al Gore has ever been a snake oil salesman. The abuse of analogous language and ignorance of history in these forums shows me " No Chld Left Behind" came fifty years too late.... "

" I like the lecture about thermodynamics. However the original theory behind global warming is that the green house gases, H20, CO2, CH4, etc would allow electromagnetic radiation from the sun to enter the earth's atmosphere, but not leave thus increasing the energy content of the entire system. The sun was the source losing energy. However when trends didn't start to follow the theory had to change. Fact is that the state climatologist isn't willing to say the climate change is human caused.

Tipped the equilibrium? Climate change has happened and will continue to do so. According to current theory Wyoming was once a tropical area by an inland sea and just 10,000 years ago massive Glaciers covered our state.

Also as far a predicting drought big deal, if you know the history of the Colorado River drainage you would know that the past 100 years have been the wettest in the past several thousands according to tree ring data. This is directly from the state climatologist office in Laramie.

The biggest shame about the scam of man made global warming is that it takes our emphasis off of the real hazardous pollution humans are emitting, like Ozone, NOx, and SOx. "

" Yes, Jim ...you are correct. Entropy is not the process I was describing at all. Unless you take the metaphorical definition of Order descending into Chaos, and the Universe eventually cooling down to absolute zero in a few trillion years. You can't break the laws of Thermodynamics or even bend them very far ( hear that , Exxon ? )Once in a while I get my words out in front of my cortex. Be that as it may , what Man has wreaked upon the Planet since the advent of the Steam Engine totally eclipses any doubt about the veracity of what the vernacular terms Global Warming..Climate Change...Climate Oscillation....whatever. If I thought they would actually take time out oft heir busy schedules to watch them , I would mail Barrasso and Enzi copies of Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth adn the new Lenardo diCaprio complementary documentary called " The 11th Hour" which I just saw this morning and wholeheartedly recommend, because the last third of it proposes solutions to climate change and the wholesale squandering of the planet's resources by corporations and consumers. "11th Hour" is available at Wal-Mart for a mere five bucks... if I had Marion's address I would send he/she/it a copy , too. Wyoming is far more a part of the problem than any forseeable solution to Global Climate Change and the ecological Dystopia we humans are rapidly creating. "

Averting one's eyes from climate change and conditions elsewhere in the world and finding comfort in how good one has it is just some more of the self-seving beliefs found too frequently in the comment sections. Humans can influence climate and have with excessive CO2 emissions; therefore, humans can reduce CO2 emissions and influence climate change. Does your vision extend to future generations, children and grandchildren, or just your generation? Do some research on climate change and come back informed on the issue. But make sure your sources are legitimate climate researchers, not the Senator Inhoffe Fossil Fools. "
