Editor:
With our country closing in on a crossroads, I believe it is time that the citizens of Wyoming start doing the things to keep us living the lifestyle we are so blessed with.
First of all, I as a Wyomingite want to see things put into place that will allow our state to survive all our needs. I do respect the fact that our state Legislature is socking money away for those days when all the large oilfield companies leave after they have destroyed our state.
In those words, I must say a limit is needed for the amount they save and how far it is before the infrastructure collapses.
In Rock Springs we have very many needs and very little support from the state. We need emergency responders, daycare facilities and for some outlying areas like the one I live in we need a water system that is strong enough to fight fires.
Yes, you heard right, the water pipes are not big enough to supply a fire truck to fight fires.
Our streets are in the worst shape I have ever seen. Also one thing needed in this area that is surely a pipe-dream is for us to have our own Doppler radar. Between the systems in Salt Lake City and Riverton, weather just kind of disappears, then it reappears once the Cheyenne system picks it up.
So what can we do as Wyoming residents, we need to elect the kind of people who understand that saving is important but so is the normal repairs to keep our towns and cities in liveable shape.
Electing the right people from mayor to president is the only way we will ever get some change. So I ask all my neighbors to look at the facts and try to determine which of the candidates are not just blowing smoke.
KELLY SOUTHER, Rock Springs
