Beware of industrial party:

And beware of real motive. I think a lot of Republicans and Democrats are members of that which could be called the "Industrial Party," but the industrial party is neither Republican nor Democratic. Its membership are those who believe in "industrial freedom" as the most important freedom, and are only socially oriented secondarily.

Mostly, that is management and proprietors -- those who hire and those who own. Industrial freedom is all about its membership making as much as they want without having to share with those outside its membership.

Thus, the industrial party must oppose all taxes and welfare because, theoretically at least; both would decrease profit, and the industrial party is all about profit -- financial profit, that is.

Not everyone within the industrial party can profit via war expenditures, but many can. I think it's good to keep the factor of possible economic gain in mind when considering war.

Some may well favor war, not because of some declared patriotism, but because it is a means to an end -- the end being financial profit and the means being investment, wages, production and materials related to it. 

I would encourage others to ask of me: Bessler, what is your "real motive" in doing this or that? I would welcome the inquisition and be willing to learn from it, for I may determine that my "real motive" is not what I thought it was.

Likewise, we should be willing to ask our candidates and officials: What is your real motive? And in asking that question, we should be willing to ask: Are you or a friend likely to personally financially profit from some favored position?

If the answer is yes, real motive may very well be in question.
