CHEYENNE - A bill that would specify that the state can't confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens in the event of natural disasters or terrorist attacks is on its way to the Senate.

The House approved House Bill 57 on third and final reading with no discussion today.

Rep. Allen Jaggi, R-Lyman, the main sponsor, said the bill was inspired by the confiscation of guns by New Orleans police in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Jaggi said he believes Wyoming needs the bill to prevent the same thing from happening here.

Three lawmakers opposed the bill initially, but only one, Rep. Jane Warren, D-Laramie, voted against the legislation on third reading.
