Platte River Region

Most of the ice is off Alcova Reservoir and anglers are able to launch boats. Trout fishing is fair using worms and minnows. No reports on walleye. Pathfinder Reservoir is just beginning to open up, but it's still mostly covered with ice.

- Yolanda Strand, Sloane's General Store in Alcova

Flows have risen to 1,200 cfs in the North Platte River out of Gray Reef Dam. The water is clear from the dam down to Lusby and cloudy farther downstream. Trout fishing is good using red rock worms, leeches, egg patterns, scuds and midge nymphs. The Miracle Mile of the North Platte has been spotty but those who know the river well are doing OK with halfbacks, leeches, San Juan worms, scuds and midges.

- Mark Boname, Platte River Fly Shop in Casper

Walleye fishing is fair at Glendo Reservoir using minnows, jigs and plastics although the weather has kept most anglers away. Catfishers are having some luck in the river channel where they're also catching a few walleye.

- Bob Shelver, Curly's Leisure Sports in Douglas

The Upper North Platte River is accessible around Saratoga and at Treasure Island, but the higher stretches of the river are still icy. Fly fishing is fair to good using caddis larvae, caddis pupae, RS2s, princes, pheasant tails, hare's ears and wooly buggers for trout. Spin anglers are doing well with Panther Martins, Rapalas or worms.

- Mike "Hack" Patterson, Hack's Tackle in Saratoga

Around the state

Trout fishing is very good in the Big Horn River near Thermopolis. Afternoon blue-winged olive hatches are producing some surface action for fly anglers. When the fish aren't keying on dry flies, nymph fishing is good using WD40s, red San Juan worms, scuds and sow bugs.

- John Schwalbe, Wyoming Adventures in Thermopolis

The ice is off Boysen Reservoir where a few boaters have caught limits of walleye recently. The fishing is rated as fair but it should get much better as the weather warms in the coming days and weeks. Most anglers are using minnows but a few are trolling crawlers on harnesses.

- Sean Walker, Walker's VP in Shoshoni

Flaming Gorge Reservoir is starting to thaw out, but most of the lake is still covered with ice. There's some open water in Buckboard Bay where shore anglers are catching rainbow trout and some smaller mackinaw on Power Bait and night crawlers.

- Lauretta Tanner, Buckboard Marina at Flaming Gorge

Caddis, blue winged olives and midges are hatching on the Lower Shoshone River in and around Cody where the dry-fly fishing is very good using parachute Adams, olive or gray sparkle duns, Griffith's gnats, royal trudes and Hemingway caddis for trout. Subsurface nymphs to use are sow bugs, scuds, FRMs, San Juan worms and various beadheads.

The North Fork of the Shoshone is closed to fishing until July 1 from the reservoir up to Newton Creek.

- Chip Andrews, North Fork Anglers in Cody
