North Platte Region

Trout fishing remains good on the Gray Reef of the North Platte River. Water clarity is improving down to Lusby. Try tan, olive or orange scuds, egg patterns or rock worms.

-Dick Diesburg, Ugly Bug Fly Shop in Casper

Trout fishing was very good at Alcova Reservoir until the wind blew all the anglers home. A worm with a marshmallow was working very well from shore. Boaters have been having luck trolling worm harnesses.

-Yolanda Strand, Sloane's General Store in Alcova

The Upper North Platte River near Saratoga is getting cold so most of the fish are being caught by nymphing. Try San Juan worms, pheasant tails, Barr emergers, hare's ears, possie buggers and hot head leeches. A few fish can be caught on dries, such as sparkle duns and parachute Adams.

Trout fishing remains good on the Laramie River using San Juan worms, pheasant tails, halfbacks, black hare ears, lightning bugs.

Lake Hattie and Alsop Lake are fishing well for trout. Use olive squirrel leeches, vanilla buggers, princes and olive hare's ears.

- Travis Wolfe, Four Seasons Anglers in Laramie

Around the state…

Boysen Reservoir is very good for walleye. Try casting jigs or working plastics in the shallows.

-Rob Davis, Wyoming Walleye Circuit

Flaming Gorge Reservoir is good from shore for rainbow trout up to 4 pounds. Night crawlers and marshmallows have been working best. Anglers are also reeling in some mackinaws, but nothing big.

-Lauretta Tanner, Buckboard Marina at Flaming Gorge

Cold weather has set in around Pinedale. Trout fishing is mostly slow on the Green River. But some warm afternoons have offered a nice window for catching fish using streamers and assorted nymphs.

-Mike Kaul, Two River Emporium in Pinedale

Most fishing is slowing down in the Big Horn region. Some anglers are still doing OK though at Muddy Guard Lakes or Lake De Smet using backswimmers and small streamers for trout.

-Luke Todd, Sports Lure in Buffalo

Anglers in northeast Wyoming should be able to hook into some big rainbow and brook trout this fall. The crew from the Story Fish Hatchery recently stocked nearly 600 Eagle Lake rainbow trout averaging nearly 18 inches in length in Gillette Fishing Lake, High Country Park Pond and Wright Panther Pond.

-Warren Mischke, northeast office Wyoming Game and Fish
