Feel free to fish: Saturday is a free fishing day in Wyoming. No license is required at all waters outside Yellowstone National Park and tribal lands. Also on Saturday, family and kids fishing days will be held at Lion's Park in Cheyenne from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Jackson National Fish Hatchery in Jackson at 10:30 a.m., and at the CCC Ponds in Pinedale at 10 a.m.
North Platte Region
Trout fishing is good on the Gray Reef of the North Platte River. Flows have dropped to 500 cfs out of the dam, but could increase once the feeder creeks recede. The river is slightly cloudy from Gray Reef to Government Bridge and running muddy below that. The best point flies are rock worms and leeches. Trailers to use are BWO split-wing foambacks and halo midges.
- Mark Boname, Platte River Fly Shop in Casper
Fishing is good at Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs. Pathfinder has been great from shore using worms, small Panther Martins and Power Bait for trout and walleye. Alcova has been good for boaters trolling for walleye. Shore anglers casting worms, chartreuse-glitter Power Bait and lures are catching some trout and walleye.
- Yolanda Strand, Sloane's General Store in Alcova
The fishing at Glendo Reservoir has been up and down, very good one day and slow the next. The lake is cloudy and boaters need to watch out for driftwood. Walleye anglers are having some luck with night crawlers, minnows and leeches.
The Wyoming Walleye Circuit is having a tournament at Glendo this Saturday and Sunday. If you're worried about the lake being crowded, know that the tournament's anglers fish in the morning and most are off the lake by the afternoon.

Some highlights around the state
Walleye fishing is pretty good at Boysen Reservoir using crawler harnesses, jigs and minnows, or jigs and GulpAlives. Anglers are also catching some nice-sized crappie and the trout are being "cooperative."
- Gary Hackett, Boysen Marina
The lake fishing is very good in the Cody region right now.
Trout fishing is great at East Newton and West Newton lakes, Luce Reservoir and Hogan Reservoir using damsel nymphs, Goddard caddis and tilt-wing callibaetis. The South Fork Abatement Dike is fishing well using big zuddlers for some sizable brown trout.
Most of the bigger rivers of the Cody area are running too big from runoff to fish. The Lower Shoshone is up and ripping at 4,200 cfs. Some small tributaries of the North Fork of the Shoshone are clearing and should start fishing well, depending on the weather, using big halfbacks, zug bugs, wire stones and bitch creeks.
- Chip Andrews, North Fork Anglers in Cody
Lakes are the best option now in the Laramie area. Trout fishing is fair to good at Lake Hattie and Sodergreen Lake using Panther Martins, Kastmasters and worms. Meebor Lake is fair using wooly buggers and scuds from a float tube for trout.
The Upper North Platte and Little Laramie rivers are running high and muddy.
- Cody Sorenson, West Laramie Fly Store
In the southwest, fishing is good at Flaming Gorge Reservoir trolling brightly colored lures for kokanee salmon and rainbow trout. Pink and orange are usually the hot colors. Worms and marshmallows are best baits from shore. Anglers are also picking up some big brown trout and mackinaws, but not many bass.
- Sarah Moody, Buckboard Marina at Flaming Gorge
In the Big Horn region, trout fishing is good at Lake DeSmet where anglers are catching some nice sized rainbows and browns outside the Monument area and at the south dam using worms and Power Bait off the bottom. Healy Reservoir is good using Jake's Lures or a bobber and worm for perch.
Tie Hack Reservoir is one of the few mountain lakes in the area that are accessible right now - lots of closed roads due to snow, rain and mud. Clear Creek and most other area streams are high and muddy from runoff.
