CHEYENNE - Local sales tax proposals went down to defeat in Fremont and Albany counties during this week's general election.

Fremont County voters on Tuesday rejected a 1 cent sales tax to fund a $37 million renovation of the Fremont County Fairgrounds.

Another $29.5 million tax proposition to fund infrastructure in various towns and a new recreation center in Riverton also failed.

Albany County residents rejected a proposal to raise the county sales tax to 7 percent. The tax would have raised about $19 million to fund infrastructure and operational costs at a new fire station in Laramie.

And in Sweetwater County, voters rejected a mill levy increase to pay for a new residence hall at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs.
