Rolle trial enters third week
The murder trial of Donald Rolle continues today, with defense attorneys beginning to present their case to the jury. Rolle, 47, is charged with kidnapping and killing Jennifer Randel, 40, in November 2007.
The prosecution rested Friday after presenting many witnesses including Randel's two sons, two of Rolle's former girlfriends, testimony by the county coroner and a DNA analyst. The prosecution also played a 911 call made by Randel on Nov. 3.
Natrona Democrats hear candidate Rothfuss
The Natrona County Democratic Central Committee will host its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at IBEW Hall, 691 English Drive, according to a release.
The group will focusing on training new precinct committee members and will hear from U.S. Senate candidate Chris Rothfuss.
The training will also be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Obama for President Office, 114 West Second St.

Planning days features more than 30 reps
Casper College will host the Northern Region Planning Days College Fair for Natrona County high school students from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 in the Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gymnasium, according to a release.
Representatives from more than 30 institutions, from Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming, will be on hand to talk with students and their parents about what they can offer prospective students. The institutions include junior colleges, universities, technical schools and the armed services.
Lizzy Hede, Casper College Hathaway Scholarship coordinator, and a panel of current Hathaway recipients will also be available to visit with parents and students about the Hathaway.

VFW hosts father/daughter dinner, dance
A father/daughter dinner and dance will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 17 at VFW post 9439, 1800 Bryan Stock Trail in Casper, according to a release.
Tickets are $40 per couple, and include pictures, a buffet dinner, and the dance. Dress can be from casual to formal, and is at the attendees' discretion. Tickets will not be sold after Oct. 12.

Windy City plans half marathon
The Casper Windy City Striders will host a crosstown, half marathon on Oct. 18 instead of its annual Halloween run, according to a release.
The race, which will benefit the Platte River Parkway Trust, will begin at the east end of the Platte River Parkway Trail in Paradise Valley and follow the trail as it winds through Casper, around Three Crowns Golf Course and finish at the North Casper Soccer Complex off Bryan Stock Trail.
The point-to-point race will include at least three water/aid stations, and refreshments at the finish line. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the start line in Paradise Valley and the race will begin at 9 a.m.
Race-day registration is $20 for Windy City members and $25 for nonmembers.
A children's race will be held at 9:45 a.m. at the North Casper Soccer Complex. Registration for the children's race will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will cost $5.

Ice Arena hosts Skate Across America
The Casper Ice Arena will host "Skate Across America" one Sunday each month during the 2008-09 season, according to a release.
Each month, a different city located somewhere between Casper and the East Coast will be featured. The final session of the season will honor Casper. The city schedule includes: Boston, Sept. 28; Washington, Oct. 19; Lexington and Louisville, Ky., Nov. 19; and Chicago, Dec. 28.
Special music, fun facts, trivia (with prizes) and food from the designated city will be included during Skate Across America sessions. The events will be held during from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sundays during public ice skating times. Admission is $3 per person and skate rental is $2. Children 4 and under are free with a paid adult.

Rec offers men's, women's basketball
Information packets for the men's and women's basketball leagues hosted by the Recreation Division are available at the Casper Recreation Center, 1801 E. Fourth St. and online at www.crlasports.com, according to a release.
Teams interested in entering a team in the men's open, men's 35 and over or women's leagues may register anytime through Nov. 13.
