Public hearings on several proposed developments, as well as the formal election of mayor and vice president of the Casper City Council, are among the many topics at tonight's council meeting.
Outgoing mayor Kate Sarosy will speak about her time as mayor and will be presented with an award. Former vice president and new mayor, Paul Bertoglio, will speak about his upcoming term.
The council will also hear comments on a possible affordable housing development in Paradise Valley called Cobblestone Apartments.
If approved, there will be 48 units in the Cobblestone Apartments, and it will sit northeast of the Paradise Valley swimming pool. The apartments will be classified as affordable, which means each resident must be living at or below 60 percent of Casper's median income.
The developer is an Idaho nonprofit called Community Development Inc. that builds affordable housing throughout the Rocky Mountains.
The council will vote for a second time on the controversial Preserve addition in southeast Casper. Plans for The Preserve, a 430-housing unit development, were approved on first reading during the council meeting on Dec. 18. Some Casper residents living in the Rustic Ridge development argued against the proposed development, saying it will bring too many people into that area of Casper.
There will also be votes on miscellaneous contracts including one for landscaping in Nancy English Park for $22,100, another contract for an Ice Arena painting project for $94,850 and one for part of the Senior Center addition for $332,500.
