School district plans winter sessions

The Natrona County School District will host a Winter Bridges Institute on Jan. 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. The program provides targeted assistance for students in need of extra help.

High school students will have an opportunity to receive additional time and assistance in an effort to help them receive credits toward graduation. The middle and elementary levels will provide activities and instruction in targeted areas for students who are in need of extra help in a variety of subjects.

Families who feel their child is in need of extra assistance during this time should contact their school.

Transportation will be provided for students who typically receive district transportation during the regular school year. Lunches will be provided to all participating Winter Bridges students, excluding those at the high school level.

Families who have questions or concerns about Winter Bridges, please contact your school.

Star Lane sets dedication ceremony

A building dedication for the new Star Lane Center will take place on Monday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. at 1400 S. Fairdale.

Hors d'oeuvres will be served, followed by a welcome from the Star Lane staff, remarks from Superintendent Jim Lowham and Trustee Linda Nix, an unveiling of Star Lane's building plaque and tours. The Natrona County School District board meeting's public session will follow at the Central Services Facility, 970 N. Glenn Rd., at 7:30 p.m.

Library plans legislative Q&A

Would you like to be able to ask your legislators a question, or tell them about something in your community that concerns you? Natrona County Public Library and the League of Women Voters have teamed up to provide you with the opportunity to speak to your state legislators on Thursday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m.

The Natrona County Legislative Forum will be held in NCPL's Crawford Room, and will allow citizens to voice their concerns, ask questions about the upcoming legislative session, and hear from their Wyoming government representatives. For more information, please call 577-READ ext. 2.

CY sets career fair, conferences for next month

CY students returning on Jan. 9 from winter break will be given an opportunity to think about their futures and to learn about careers in which they are interested. More than 40 volunteers representing a wide variety of careers from across the Casper community will be on hand Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, to share perspective with CY students. Presenters will provide information about education or training necessary for the careers, job responsibilities, salary ranges and future job demand.

School will be dismissed at 11:20 on Jan. 9 for all Casper secondary students. CY parents and students are invited to return to CY between 12:45 and 2:45 p.m. for student-led conferences in the student's Prime Time classroom. Students will share first semester report cards and information with their parents about short-term goals for second semester, and possible long-term career interests resulting from the morning presentations. Registration for 2008, graduation and Hathaway Scholarship information will also be included.
