A Casper man Wednesday admitted to sexually abusing a teenage baby sitter as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

Natrona County District Judge David Park accepted a deal that gave Samuel Barrett a four- to six-year suspended prison sentence and five years probation. During that time, Barrett cannot consume alcohol or use drugs, and he must receive counseling. He also can't have unsupervised contact with minors within his family, nor any contact with minors outside his family.

Park rejected Barrett's first plea deal. Judges in Wyoming have the power to reject plea agreements they consider contrary to justice.

At the time, Park offered no explanation for declining the deal, but expressed reservations with a part of the agreement that would have dismissed legal proceedings against Barrett if he successfully completed probation, an option for first-time offenders charged with certain crimes.

Police arrested Barrett in September after the girl alleged she performed a sex act on him at his home. She also told investigators Barrett gave her alcohol, according to a police affidavit.
