Council sets public hearing dates for old Amoco property

Nearly 250 acres of land may be added to Casper's boundaries if the Casper City Council approves the change.

The Salt Creek Business Center is currently in Natrona County and part of the former Amoco refinery site. If it is annexed into the city, the zoning may be changed to limited industrial and serve a variety of businesses.

Plans call for eleven lots ranging in size from 1.9 acres to 60.8 acres.

When completed, businesses could occupy three tiers. Greg Thomas, a broker for the marketing firm Grubb & Ellis said in an earlier interview, that the first tier is for hospitality.

The second tier is for light industrial, with warehouse storage facilities in the back and offices in the front. The bottom level is designed for large warehouses and other heavier industrial uses.

The city council will hold a public hearing to discuss the annexation on Sept. 16.

The council will also discuss the annual Community Development Block Grant Funds in a public hearing on Sept. 16.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocates the block grant funds to be used for community improvement projects such as World Changers and lower-interest small business loans.

The council will also vote to:

* Approve $22,488 of Community Development Block Grant Funds to install security lighting on Life Steps Campus. The Casper Police Department Crime Prevention Officer identified places on the campus that need additional lighting to help prevent crime.

* Dissolve the Housing and Community Development Commission. City staff members as well as the council now perform most of the original duties of the commission, according to city officials.

* Approve a contract with Haass Construction Co. for $591,595 to replace the slide at the Paradise Valley Swimming Pool.

* Appoint James Holloway as the architect for the Old Yellowstone District design review committee. He will serve with several other city staff members on the design committee, and help to make decisions future buildings in the area near downtown.
