Second summer semester begins

The second semester of ninth- through 12th-grade summer school will begin Monday, according to a media release.

Morning sessions begin at 7 a.m. and afternoon sessions begin at 11:50 a.m. Most classes are full, but those on the waiting list should go to their classes on Monday to see if there are openings.

JumpStart classes also begin Monday. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for elementary and middle school students.

Breakfast and lunch are provided for both summer semester and JumpStart attendees at no cost.

Slipknot performs in Casper

Tickets are on sale now for Slipknot, performing with Anthrax and Black Dahlia Murder at the Casper Events Center at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1, according to a media release.

Seats are reserved in the stands and general admission on the floor. Ticket prices are $34.50 and $39.50, plus applicable fees, and are available at the Casper Events Center Box Office. Charge by phone at 577-3030 or (800) 442-2256, or at www.CasperEventsCenter.com.

NCHS places in championships

Natrona County High School placed in the National SkillsUSA Championships in Kansas City, Mo., according to a media release.

More than 5,400 Career & Technical Education students from across the country met to compete in more than 90 competitions. Students from Natrona County High School competed in Job Interview and Chapter Business Procedure.

This is the first national championship for the SkillsUSA class at NCHS. The students are instructed and advised by Brock Burch.

Wyo author meets with teens

Mackie D'Arge, author of "Lifting the Sky," will meet with teens and adults during two events at the Natrona County Public Library on Tuesday, according to a media release.

The first event, for teens, will be held at 2 p.m., and a second event for adults or families at 6:30 p.m., both in the library's Crawford Room.

Learn about the author's Wyoming life, writing style, other artistic endeavors and publishing experience.

BLM offers firewood permits

Firewood and post and pole permits for the Muddy Mountain area will be issued by the Bureau of Land Management Casper Field Office from Tuesday through July 30, according to a media release.

Permits are limited to three cords per person and will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. Permits are $16 per cord and $2 per post and pole. There is an additional $1.50 road maintenance fee per permit.

Individuals must show up in person at the Casper Field Office, located at 2987 Prospector Drive between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to purchase a permit.

Actual cutting will begin on Tuesday and end Aug. 2. All available areas and individual trees will be designated and marked by BLM prior to the sale. Firewood can be cut in these areas, and only those trees marked are available for firewood use.

Rec hosts family pool party

FRIDAY, July 17th, 7:00 9:00 PM

Community Recreation Foundation will host the annual free family pool party at the Paradise Valley Pool from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, according to a media release.

Families can enjoy two hours of swimming, unlimited use of the new water slides, games, door prizes and free refreshments. Children under age 5 are free. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and regular pool rules apply.
