A man accused of robbing the Casper downtown Wells Fargo Bank branch will enter a change of plea in federal court in Cheyenne on Monday, according to court documents filed late last week.
Jeffery "J.C." Craig Morrison, 61, was charged with one count of bank robbery after he allegedly walked into the bank's lobby at 9:26 a.m. May 6 and demanded money from a teller, according to court documents.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Morrison walked out with about $300, and was arrested several hours later after Casper police received a tip about a man who bragged that he planned to rob a bank and later bragged that he did, according to police reports.
Morrison told police he robbed the bank because he needed the money to treat his chronic pain.
He also claimed to have robbed other banks, and authorities have confirmed he had a previous conviction for that crime.
A grand jury indicted Morrison a few days after the robbery, and he pleaded not guilty in federal court in Cheyenne on May 18.
Morrison's trial was scheduled for July 27. If convicted he faced up to 20 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. He has remained in custody.
On June 16, U.S. District Judge Alan Johnson in Cheyenne granted a defense motion and ordered a medical/mental evaluation for Morrison.
On Friday, a notice filed with the court clerk stated Morrison would appear for a change of plea hearing in Johnson's courtroom at 1:30 a.m. Monday.
