The Wyoming Medical Center announced Friday the chairman of its board of directors has resigned.

Steve Chadderdon resigned so he could be eligible to apply for another position within the hospital, according to Shauna VanderLinden, spokeswoman for the hospital.

Chadderdon announced his decision Wednesday night after the board's monthly meeting, VanderLinden said. He told board members he wanted to apply for the newly created position of executive director of networking for the hospital.

A few months ago, the board made it a goal to better develop the hospital's relationships outside of Casper and the new position is intended facilitate that objective.

Chadderdon has served as a board member since 2005 and became chairman in the summer of 2007. He oversaw the board during two chief executive officer searches, the opening of a competing hospital in the community and many discussions about hospital expansions.

"He was very well respected by the board and the community," VanderLinden said. "I only ever heard good things about him."

VanderLinden said no one else at the hospital was available for comment due to the holidays.

The board voted to name Diane Payne, a member for several years and vice president at Hilltop National Bank, as its new chairman Wednesday.

Currently, the board is looking for a new member for Payne's position.

VanderLinden said people who are interested should contact a board member or someone at the hospital. The board will complete a search for candidates and, based on the current needs of the board, will choose someone to replace Payne.
