City council considers ban
Ramps, lighting, stairs and rails soon will move in next to the Boys and Girls Club, becoming Casper's second skate park.
For slightly more than $500,000, Magnum Construction, LLC may build the planned 13,800-square-feet ramp. If all goes as scheduled, the park will be completed by Sept. 5, 2008, according to the Casper City Council agenda for its work session at 4 p.m. today.
The first $500,000 will be funded by from one-cent tax funds. There are several payment options for the other $50,000.
The Casper City Council will discuss the skate park as well as listen to a proposal to ban feeding pigeons. The birds can carry 54 harmful diseases transmissible to humans, Jesse Helm, chairman of the Downtown Development Authority, wrote in a letter to the council.
Helm argued that fewer pigeons in Casper will "translate into fewer opportunities for the transmission of harmful diseases to humans." The authority recommends an ordinance banning pigeon feeding within 10 miles of the city limits.
Members of the Downtown Casper Community Farmers Market will ask the city council for permission to use a downtown street for the market.
The council will also discuss proposed uses for Community Development Block Grant Funds. This year's list of projects includes CATC, a house rehabilitation assistance program, LifeSteps Campus, city core revitalization activities, code enforcement and a rental rehabilitation program.
