The American Association of Community College Trustees selected Gretchen Wheeler as the recipient of the 2008 Western Regional Faculty Member Award, according to a release from Casper College.
Wheeler, Casper College communications instructor, director of forensics, and director of service learning, was chosen for her demonstrated excellence in teaching, initiative and help in developing innovative programs, service on special committees, leadership, and commitment to supporting national two-year postsecondary associations.
"Not only is she an excellent instructor in the classroom, but also her recent work with service learning has inspired our campus and motivated our students to get involved in their community," said Carmen Simone, vice president of academic affairs at Casper College, in the release.
Wheeler was nominated for the award by the Casper College Board of Trustees.
"I appreciate the support that the board and the administration of the college have given to the faculty for innovative projects and programs that are designed to prepare our students for the future," Wheeler said. "The nomination itself is an honor - to win an award on a regional level and to be recognized on a national level is very rewarding."
Wheeler will receive her award during the ACCT Annual Community College Leadership Congress General Session Luncheon on Oct. 30. In addition, Wheeler is also eligible to win the William H. Meardy Faculty Member Award. The winner of that award will be named from the five regional winners during the Annual Awards Gala on Oct. 31.
The Association of Community College Trustees is a nonprofit educational organization of governing boards.
