Legislators talk property tax

Natrona County legislators will be joined by experts in the field of taxation to answer questions about property taxes today in the City Council Chambers, 200 N. David from 4 to 8 p.m. The forum is free and open to the public.

Representatives from the Wyoming Department of Revenue, State Board of Equalization, County Assessors Association, Wyoming Taxpayers Association and Hilltop National Bank will explain how property taxes are assessed, collected and disbursed. Information about Wyoming's property taxes compared with other states will be presented, along with details about reverse mortgages. A question and answer session will follow.

Library group hosts booksigning

The Wyoming Library Association will host a booksigning for Pamela Sinclair, the author of "A Taste of Wyoming: Favorite Recipes from the Cowboy State," from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Parkway Plaza Hotel as part of the group's annual conference, according to a release.

Women's Expo opens Friday

The fourth annual Wyoming Women's Expo is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Casper Events Center. The event will include exhibitors, hands-on demonstrations and seminars.

The Expo opens with the Rock Star Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, and executive coach Julie Overholt will be the keynote speaker. The tradeshow opens at 4 p.m., followed by Girls' Night Out from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Overholt will deliver another presentation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the tradeshow will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission is $7 for adults and $10 for a two-day pass; children under 12 are free.

Lecture focuses on food supply

Dr. Wayne Hunter, Casper College Alumni Association 2008 Distinguished Alumnus, will discuss "Protecting Our Food Supply: New Discoveries and Threats" at 7 p.m. today as part of the Zimmerman Lecture Series, according to a release from the college.

"Dr. Hunter will be presenting an informative overview of the latest research and discoveries addressing the hottest pests and diseases affecting U.S. food crops," said Linda Nix, alumni coordinator.

Hunter received his A.S. in wildlife management from Casper College in 1983 and earned his other degrees from Central Missouri State, Missouri and Hawaii-Manoa.

Hunter's presentation will take place in the in the Wold Physical Science Center's Wheeler Auditorium, Room 103 and is free and open to the public. The Casper College Biology Department, the University of Wyoming/Casper College Center and Casper College sponsor the Zimmerman Lecture Series.

College hosts first Women's Choir fest

The first Wyoming Women's Choir Festival will be on Friday and Saturday at Casper College and feature choirs from Wyoming, Montana, and Casper College, according to a release from the college.

According to Pat Patton, voice and choir instructor at Casper College, the two-day event will include individual choir performances, workshops and presentations, and a combined festival concert. "The Festival Concert will feature a new choral work composed specifically for the festival by Casper College Fine Arts Division Chair Dr. Eric Unruh," said Patton.

A Welcome Concert will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 701 S. Wolcott. It is free and open to the public.

The Festival Concert is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Administration Building Gymnasium on the Casper College campus. Cost for this concert is $5 per person, and tickets will be available at the door.

The festival is hosted by The Casper College Women's Choir, in collaboration with Alla Breve, and Wyoming American Choral Directors Association.

College offers quick Word course

Casper College is offering an intermediate class in Microsoft Word for people who have completed Word Basic or who have experience using word processing software, according to a release.

The class will cover creating graphics and Web pages, merging documents, creating and using styles and templates, and developing multipage documents.

City dedicates new skate park

City officials will dedicate the new fixed-ramp, concrete skate park at 6:30 p.m. on Friday behind the Boys & Girls Club, according to a release.

The facility, paid for with funds from the Optional One Cent sales tax, will include lighting and will be open from dawn until 11 p.m. daily.

After the dedication, the Boys & Girls Club and The Link will host a celebration from 7 to 10 p.m. The free event will feature food, prizes, and live music performed by The Russian Made Robots and Cherry Vail.
