Only one Casper City Council race will be formally contested in the primary election on Aug. 19, but there are possible write-in candidates to create competition in the general election.

Ward III, which is generally Casper's east side, has one seat that will be vacated by Maury Daubin. He and Casperites Terry Lane and Peggy Phillips will face off in the primary, vying for the lone position.

Ward II, which is roughly west of Poplar Street, has two openings and only two people who filed for the primary election.

The incumbent, Stefanie Boster and Monte Henrie, Jr. are unopposed in the primary. But, recent council appointee Joel Burdess and former Natrona County Commissioner Bill Brauer both said earlier this month that they intended to run as write-in candidates.

Two write-in candidates will be able to proceed to the general election, and compete with Boster and Henrie for the open positions.

Lastly, if you are in Ward I, which is generally between Poplar and Beverly streets, you may see five candidates on the ballot to fill two seats.

Former council member Page Fagan initially placed his name on the ballot before resigning from the council and moving to Denver. His name may still appear on the ballot but he is not in the race.

This means there are four candidates, incumbent Kate Sarosy, Roger Kline, Joshua Kronberg and Kimberly Holloway who will run to fill two positions opened by Sarosy and Fagan.

All four candidates for Ward I will proceed to the general election.
