Champions host Phase II of Creativity Workshop
Phase II of the Portrait of Success Creativity Workshop, hosted by Champions Mentor Program, will take place in the Frontier Middle School cafeteria from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, according to a release.
In October, adult mentors and student mentees participated in Phase I and took turns creating Paper Mache masks on each other's faces. Once the masks were dry and decorated, the team attached them to large canvases and created an expression of their relationship using craft supplies. On Friday and Saturday, the mentees now will work with their families to create family portraits. Adult mentors will be there to offer assistance.
The Champions Mentoring Program matches adult volunteers with at-risk 4th- through 8th-grade students, who then work together to develop long-term, positive relationships while promoting academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, positive lifestyle and community service.

Beginners will benefit from using a wide variety of pastels - from hard to very soft - and pastel pencils.
The cost of the workshop is $100 for museum members and $120 for non-members, and includes some supplies. A list of the supplies participants should bring is available at the museum's front desk.
Class size is limited to 12 students, so early registration is encouraged.
