This note comes too late to promote the organization's annual Recovery Rally last Saturday, but we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge the great contribution made to the community by Casper's 12-24 Club.

The club is Casper's community center for a variety of 12-step groups and the addicts seeking recovery in them. It was started in 1993 and now includes a meeting place, an affordable restaurant and an open door for anyone seeking help or friendship. More than 3,000 people visit each month.

The club is truly a grassroots effort. Several 12-step groups pay rent on collections from their meetings, and some money comes in the form of donations and profits from the restaurant. But proceeds from the annual Recovery Rally, a night of musical performances and inspiration, are important in keeping the doors open.

Hats off to those who performed and attended on Saturday. And hats off to all who have made the 12-24 Club such an important resource for people striving to free themselves from addiction.
