Role models ![]()
Cheers to the 15 inmates who completed the Casper Re-Entry Center's 12-month therapeutic community program, which includes intense substance abuse treatment, counseling and education. Since 2005, nearly 400 people have graduated from the program, which teaches residents how to realize how their actions hurt others.
Bad, bad day ![]()
Jeers to Stevi Mannarino, 19, who shouldn't have left her house on July 2. She is charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), no insurance, expired registration and leaving the scene of an accident. A police officer said she allegedly offered him $20 when she was pulled over for speeding.
Problem resolved ![]()
Cheers to the Casper City Council, which helped resolve access problems and approved the site plan for the new Highland Park Community Church south of the Elkhorn Valley Rehabilitation Center on the city's east side. The church's initial proposed site at 12th and Newport was scuttled after neighbors complained about increased traffic.
Punish poacher ![]()
Jeers to whoever poached a bull elk in the Medicine Bow National Forest between Cheyenne and Laramie last week. Game Warden Roger Bredehoft described the poaching near Pilot Knob as a "thrill killing, pure and simple." The person responsible should be punished. We encourage anyone with information to call Bredehoft at (307) 745-4402.
Looking good ![]()
Cheers to Donna and John Miller, a Phoenix couple who spend their summers in Midwest. The Millers have become the town's wrecking crew as they buy unsightly properties and turn them into beautification projects. Their latest is the demolition of Midwest's old grocery store. The lot will feature flower beds and rose gardens.
