Individuals and businesses should consider getting involved in a new program that could help a lot of Natrona County students.

The Champions Mentor program is seeking adults to volunteer to be role models for youngsters. Many are needed - 350 mentors is the goal of the school district's program.

As part of the Safe Schools, Healthy Kids project, volunteers will be screened and carefully matched with students. The expectation is for the adults to commit to spend time with kids during the week for at least a year.

That's where the help of businesses comes into play. If local businesses will give the volunteers regularly scheduled time off from work to participate in the program, it will greatly help its chances of success.

Here's hoping that businesses will see that having their employees mentor students is a good investment of their time, as well as helping the next generation of potential workers.
