Mark Gordon and I met over a coal-bed methane project on Clear Creek in Sheridan County some years ago. Mark was manager of the Ucross Ranch where the project was located, and my firm represented the mineral owner; it was a classic case of split estate.

Together with the operator of the wells, we worked through drilling and equipping 29 wells involving 2,120 acres of the Ucross Ranch in a manner that preserved the Ranch operations and values, including the unique Ucross Foundation artist in residence program, while benefiting the mineral owner in co-development of the CBM resource.

Were there problems? You can bet there were plenty. Were the problems resolved? Absolutely, but it took common sense, recognition of property rights, and respect for you neighbor. These are Wyoming values Mark Gordon will take to Washington when elected as our representative.

MARK DOELGER, Casper
