At the Natrona County Public Library I found, "The Coming Economic Collapse: How You Can Thrive When Oil Costs $200 a Barrel," by Stephen Leeb and Glen Strathy, and the book confirmed my expectations.

That thinking led to wonderment, looking back to the time when U.S. lamps burned whale oil, and the oceans ran out of whales. Crisis.

John D. Rockefeller saw opportunity. He bought that new stuff, petroleum, a refinery and planned to supply all the lamps with kerosene.

Thomas Editor's light bulbs ruined that market. Mr. Rockefeller made gasoline, teamed up with Henry Ford, and the rest is history.

Another comparison might be the discovery of South Pass.
