Editor:
Recently, 19 square miles of ice has been broken off of Ellesmere Island in Canada. In the past the Seron and Ward Hunt Ice Shelves have been drastically melted and broken as well.
This would not be a problem normally because thick sea ice would grow back. However, due to the effects of global warming, the ice refuses to re-grow. Rare ecosystems are being lost due to this effect and may very well become extinct. There needs to be more drastic measures taken to address global warming.
We should be raising awareness on an international level. And this country will be going into a drastic melt of its own if something more is not done.
Awareness needs to be on high alert for global warming and environmental preservation. If not, the consequences could be disastrous. This planet is the only one we have and we should be taking better care of it.
