Editor:
Winney has the right science:
I have been reading the various news accounts of the Coal-Bed Methane Fair in Gillette. The environmental problems associated with the development of our coal-bed methane pockets in Wyoming should be viewed as both challenges and opportunities.
But the approach to their development must be based on the best science and engineering, not emotion and hoped for results. At times we love our "cowboy mentality" (just do it) and those of our money handlers (we can buy the solution), but the reality is that those approaches never solve environmental problems.
Thus, when the candidates for the U.S. Congress debate Wyoming's energy opportunities, you need an individual who understands the science and engineering requirements.
Bill Winney is trained in both science and engineering and has spent a career applying the associated knowledge and skills. He understands that with the energy development opportunities in Wyoming, you must first get the science right!
Begin with making the right decisions that protect the quality of our water and wildlife, that profit the industry, community and the state, that provide the jobs, and yes, that are compatible with our regulatory requirements.
I urge you to elect a person to Congress that thoroughly knows Wyoming's environmental and energy issues. There is no substitute for firsthand experience in solving such issues, and Bill Winney has that experience.
