YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) - A pickup truck went out of control and crashed down a ravine here late Wednesday, killing one person and injuring another.
The truck was traveling on the road between the park's northern entrance at Gardiner, Mont., and Mammoth Hot Springs when the driver lost control, officials said.
The vehicle skidded for more than 160 feet, struck a guardrail, vaulted 45 feet down an embankment and came to rest upside down along the riverbank.
The passenger, a 27-year-old woman from Michigan, died at the scene, authorities said. The driver, a 27-year-old also from Michigan man was flown by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Their names were not immediately released.
In Grand Teton National Park to the south, an 81-year-old man died in a collision near the park's south boundary on U.S. 26-89-191.
Glenn Napierskie, of Jackson, died in the accident, which occurred about 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Park Service.
The accident occurred when the vehicle Napierskie was driving apparently veered into oncoming traffic while attempting to avoid another vehicle that was making a left hand turn, the park service said.
