Child dies at home day care

JACKSON - Authorities in Jackson are looking into the death of a baby girl last week at an unauthorized home day care center. Police say there is no sign of foul play.

Emergency medical personnel were called to an apartment in Jackson last Wednesday after someone called reporting that the 11-month-old girl had stopped breathing.

Officers found that the apartment was being used as a day care center and that one woman was caring for 10 children there, including the baby girl.

Jackson police said Monday they're waiting to get an autopsy report before deciding whether to investigate.

Bison return to summer ranges

GARDINER, Mont. - Warm temperatures and abundant sunshine are prompting Yellowstone National Park bison to return to their summer ranges inside the park.

A park manager on Monday opened the corrals at the Stephens Creek bison capture pens northwest of Gardiner. Park officials said about 300 bison headed south toward Mammoth, and then east into the Lamar Valley; or south toward Fountain Flats, the Central Plateau and Hayden Valley.

The majority of the bison released Monday had been held since April in the Stephens Creek pens for release at spring green-up to protect Montana's brucellosis-free status without sending the bison to slaughter.

Grand Teton plans cleanup

MOOSE - Staff and concession employees at Grand Teton National Park will perform their annual park cleanup on Thursday. Anyone driving through the park that day should be alert for people on the roads.

Superintendent Mary Gibson Scott said the cleanup will last from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday. Workers will be picking up litter along park roadways and parking lots before summer visitors arrive.

Scott also encourages all visitors to the park to place any litter in trash cans and other containers located around the park.

Students get chance to win car

GILLETTE - A Gillette high school student who's had excellent attendance this past school year will soon be the lucky winner of a new car.

Campbell County High School will raffle off a new Pontiac G5 on Thursday.

School officials say that 120 students are in the running for the car this year.

To qualify for the drawing, a student can't miss more than eight class periods all year. A student who misses zero classes has his or her name entered eight times.

A student with one class absence gets seven tickets. A student who's missed two classes gets six tickets, and so on.

Vice Principal Kelly Morehead says the raffle makes students think twice about skipping class.
