Cheyenne sets new temp record

CHEYENNE - Cheyenne's high temperature on Friday reached only 49 degrees.

That broke the city's record for the lowest high temperature on Aug. 15.

The previous record was 60 degrees set in 1888.

In addition, the city has been getting a lot of rain. So far, it is the third wettest August on record in Cheyenne. BC-WY-Bean Crop,0333

Bean crop needs warm weather

POWELL- The dry bean harvest in the Big Horn Basin of northern Wyoming will likely be delayed after a cold, wet spring kept plants from developing on schedule.

"The beans don't look good this year," said Mike Moore, manager of the University of Wyoming Seed Certification Service. Fields across the Basin are "just now seeing pod set which is later than normal," he said.

"Plant development is real erratic, not just between fields but even within fields," he said.

There are good fields in every area, he said, but the best pod sets he's seen are in the Worland area, where the spring weather was more conducive to bean plant development.
