CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Supreme Court today upheld a sentence of life without parole for a Colorado man convicted in the 2004 shooting death of a companion in Cheyenne.
The court rejected an appeal from Emilio Teniente of Greeley, Colo. Teniente was sentenced in 2005 to serve two life sentences without parole for his murder and conspiracy convictions.
Teniente was convicted in Cheyenne in early 2005 of providing the handgun that was used to kill 19-year-old Joseph Lopez, also of Greeley.
According to the court ruling, Teniente, Lopez and three others drove to Cheyenne from Greeley on Jan. 17, 2004. Some of the men began fighting in the car after Lopez allegedly insulted the mother of one of the other passengers.
The court ruling states that Teniente later gave Eddie Magallanes, of North Platte, Neb., a .25-caliber handgun and ordered him to shoot Lopez. Magallanes also was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
