LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Rescuers saved an elk that was stuck in a lake and then sawed his antlers to fit him into a trailer.
The elk spent about two hours in a lake Tuesday near Logan's First Dam. State wildlife officers in a boat grabbed the antlers to keep his head above water.
The elk was too tired to walk when he reached shore, so officers tied his legs and carried him to a trailer on a tarp. The elk was transported to a large herd in the Cache Valley after his antlers were trimmed.
Some bystanders say the rescue took too long. But conservation officer Matt Burgess says the team responded as quickly as possible.
