CODY - Charges filed in Big Horn County against a former Lovell High School history teacher and football coach have led to a District Court case against him in Park County on two counts of indecent liberties with a child.

The Park County case against Troy S. Pittman, 33, of Lovell was bound over this week from Circuit Court, where Judge Bruce Waters found there was probable cause for a trial on the two counts. He dismissed a third count of the same offense for lack of probable cause.

Pittman was charged in Big Horn County on Oct. 22 on what is apparently a separate matter, according to court documents filed in connection with the Park County case.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation assisted Big Horn County authorities in investigating allegations against a high school coach of sexual misconduct with students and/or football players there, according to an affidavit filed by DCI investigator Darrell Steward in the Park County case.

Pittman was later charged, and rumors of his arrest in Big Horn County prompted additional disclosures about incidents alleged to have taken place more than a decade ago, when Pittman was an assistant football coach at Powell High School, the affidavit states.

The exact nature and status of the Big Horn County charges are unclear. Under a state law passed last year, all information about sex crimes cases is kept confidential until the matter advances to District Court.

The Circuit Court clerk's office in Big Horn County said it could neither confirm nor deny a pending case against Pittman. The Big Horn County District Court clerk's office said Pittman was not named as a defendant in any scheduled cases.

Dan Coe, superintendent for Big Horn County School District 2, said Pittman "is no longer teaching or coaching in our district."

Coe said Pittman ceased those activities in late October, but added that state laws requiring confidentiality of personnel records prevented him from providing further information on the change in Pittman's employment status.

The Park County case involves allegations of Pittman providing alcohol and pornography to minor boys at a private residence and persuading them to engage in specific sexual activities while he watched, according to the affidavit.

The three alleged victims interviewed by Steward in the Park County case are now adults, but would have been between 13 and 15 years old at the time, the affidavit states.

Pittman did not return a message left seeking comment.
