CHEYENNE (AP) - Wyoming drivers won't have to pay twice as much for their licenses as a result of a Senate vote Tuesday.

On a 18-12 vote, the Senate killed House Bill 142 to double the amount of driver's license fees.

For example, the bill would have increased the fee to renew a driver's license to $30, up from $15, and from $20 to $40 to renew a commercial driver's license.

The bill passed the House earlier on a 39-21 vote.

Opponents in the Senate said the fee increase was tantamount to a tax increase, which is inappropriate this year given the state's healthy revenues.
