FBI investigates death
FORT WASHAKIE - The FBI is investigating the death of a 19-year-old man on the Wind River Reservation.
FBI spokeswoman Kathy Wright said Wednesday the victim was Shyrone R. Brown.
She said the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Wright said Brown wasn't shot but she didn't release the cause of death. She said no other details are being disclosed.
Wright said the Wind River Police Department reported the death to the FBI on Monday.
The FBI has jurisdiction on American Indian reservations.
Teen missing after falling
BASIN - Big Horn County officials are searching for an Indiana teen who tumbled into a creek in a remote part of northern Wyoming.
The sheriff's department says the 19-year-old, whose name and hometown haven't been released, fell into the Dry Fork of Paint Rock Creek on Monday.
Authorities say the teen was in a group traveling through the back country on horseback.
Authorities say the creek was running high from rain and above-normal runoff from snow.
Griz killing leads to fine
POWELL - A Powell man has paid $7,500 for accidentally shooting a grizzly bear.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says 38-year-old Lawrence Larsen reported that he was hunting for black bears when he mistakenly shot the grizzly May 24 near the North Fork of the Shoshone River.
Game warden Craig Sax said the bear was young - 2 or 3 years old - and recently had been fishing in the river. Sax said those might be reasons why Larsen mistook the bear for a black bear. Black bears are smaller and often darker-colored than grizzly bears.
Larsen was cited for taking a grizzly bear without a license. Sax said Larsen paid the fine rather than go to court.
Sax said he has no doubt that Larsen made an honest mistake.
Jackson hospital hires CEO
JACKSON - Jackson's community hospital has hired an interim chief executive after the previous CEO was fired and three of the hospital's seven board members resigned.
The St. John's Medical Center trustees on Tuesday appointed Pam Maples Maher to a six-month term, which could be extended to two years.
Maher was the hospital's CEO from 1985 to 1995. She's currently CEO of Arizona Regional Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz.
The St. John's trustees fired CEO Jim Schuessler last month amid a tussle over controlling Schuessler and communications with him.
St. John's has 108 beds and serves the northwest Wyoming resort town and surrounding counties.
