Police look for armed fugitive

A Casper man who police say used a weapon to steal a vehicle from a family member was being sought by authorities Tuesday evening.

Matthew Gallagher Glynn, 20, is considered armed and dangerous, according to a release from the Casper Police Department. He is believed have left the Casper area.

Glynn is white with blonde hair and blue eyes, weighing 280 pounds and standing 6 feet tall.

He was reported to be driving a 2001 black Ford Explorer with the "Ford" written on the front windshield and decorative writing on the back. Described as not a typical SUV, it has four doors and a small truck bed in the back.

Glynn reportedly had a .22 caliber silver pistol, and he is believed to have had a white dog with him and possibly a woman as well.

He was last seen wearing a red and purple shirt with white stripes down the sleeves and old jeans with a patch on one of the legs. Gallagher was wearing boots that have metal showing through on one toe and a brown leather vest and a black baseball cap with blue writing.

Police weren't sure where he was traveling but reported he could be headed to the Powell, Cheyenne or Montana areas.

Glynn faces charges of aggravated robbery and vehicle theft.

Corrections agency shuffles staff

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Department of Corrections on Tuesday announced staffing changes that will result in a national search to find a new warden for the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins.

Scott Abbott, who has served as warden at the penitentiary since August 2003, will transfer to Cheyenne. He will serve as chief of operations for the Division of Prisons.

Melinda Brazzale, spokeswoman for the corrections department, said Abbott requested the transfer. "He looks at this as a way to give him a larger view of the entire department," she said.

Martha Buchanan, the current chief of operations, has been named associate warden at the new Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution, which will be built in Torrington.

Michael Murphy, associate warden at the Rawlins prison, will serve as acting warden beginning June 29.

Woman says 'not guilty' in killing

CHEYENNE - One of two people charged in a 1998 murder plot pleaded not guilty on Monday in Laramie County District Court.

Irene Cruz-LaRiviere, 54, was scheduled for trial Oct. 17 on a conspiracy charge.

Cruz-LaRiviere and her former husband, Steven LaRiviere, 47, were arrested last month - almost eight years after Danny Lee Burch was killed. Authorities said LaRiviere shot Burch in the head with a crossbow, then beat him to death with a pipe after Cruz-LaRiviere said Burch had scammed her out of some money.

Burch's skull was found in 2002 near the Vedauwoo Recreation Area west of Cheyenne.

LaRiviere pleaded not guilty last week to charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy. He is scheduled for trial Sept. 18.
