ROCK SPRINGS - A Sweetwater County woman was killed Sunday night by a hit-and-run motorist while walking along Interstate 80 near Point of Rocks, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Stephen Townsend said troopers arrested 37-year-old Kelly D. Noble of Grace, Idaho, several hours after the incident.
Tannya R. Dye, 30, of Rock Springs died from injuries received in the crash, which occurred around 7:15 p.m. Sunday.
Townsend said for reasons unknown Dye was walking on I-80 in the westbound driving lane. He said Noble was driving a truck tractor with no trailer westbound when he struck Dye with the right front of the truck.
He said Noble apparently did not stop and render aid at the scene and continued westbound.
Troopers at the scene gathered debris left by the truck tractor and were able to determine that the hit-and-run vehicle was a red truck tractor.
Law enforcement agencies were alerted and a trooper patrolling on U.S. Highway 30 near Opal in Lincoln County located the vehicle. Noble was arrested about 100 miles from the scene of the crash and transferred to the Sweetwater County Detention Center near Green River.
Townsend said upon completion of the state's crash investigation, all information will be turned over to the Sweetwater County attorney's office. He said the county prosecutor will make the final determination on whether charges should be filed.
A booking official said Noble's bond had not been set and information on whether he had an attorney was not available. Noble was not made available for comment.
The Highway Patrol said it will turn over the results of its investigation to the Sweetwater County attorney's office to determine whether charges should be filed.
A message left with the attorney's office was not immediately returned Monday afternoon.
