Threat prompts school evacuation
Colter Elementary School in Jackson was evacuated Monday afternoon because of a bomb threat, the Jackson Police Department reported.
A search of the school found no "items of concern," however, and school employees were allowed to return at about 4 p.m.
A press release from the department said the bomb threat was discovered "in the school," but offered no further details. An investigation is under way to identify the person who made the threat.
"Law enforcement reminds those who would consider committing such a crime that bomb threats are taken very seriously and anyone discovered being involved in such activities will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," the release said.
