DOUGLAS-Funeral services for George William Wisdom, 57, will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15,2008 at the Frontier Baptist Church, located at 2345 East Richards St., Douglas, Wyo. with Pastor Tim Ricker officiating.

He died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, surrounded in love and peace at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

He was born in Camp Wood, Tex. on Aug. 11, 1951, the son of Andrew William and Oner Lee (Ratliff) Wisdom. His family eventually made Llano, Tex. their home.

He earned his GED and became a master at many trades, earning a living and raising a family. When his marriage fell apart, he gave away everything he owned and moved to Wyoming in 1988.

He met and married Shelagh J. Wulff in August 1989. They settled on their small ranch south of Douglas. He loved working with the horses, tolerated cattle and disliked sheep.

He was a founding member of the VNEA Pool League and the Converse County Chariot Racing Association, and served on the boards of YDS and DARE. He was a committee member of Senior Pro Rodeo and the Wyoming Wagon Jamboree. He worked for several employers before settling into work at Russell Lumber, where he worked for 11 years.

George was passionate about demolition derby cars, and through the last 18 years built around 30 derby cars and helped others with theirs. He was instrumental in starting the grand entry of the Wyoming State Fair demolition derby and the derby car parade.

He became a faithful worshipper and took great pride and pleasure in working on the renovations of the Frontier Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Peggy Adams; and a brother, Kelly Dean Wisdom.

H is survived by his wife, Shelagh Wisdom; children Donia Gray, Catina Rae Gray, Darrin Gray, Atlanta Wisdom and Rachel Garcia; brothers, James, Steve, Buster and Bobby Wisdom; and sister, Mae Fehr.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Turner, Woody Ricker, Ryan Ricker, Peter Mike Curtin, John Schmid and Max Page.

A memorial to the choice of the donor in George's honor would be appreciated by the family.

Gormon Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas is in charge of arrangements.
