RIVERTON -- Fremont County-area law enforcement have dealt with a number of incidents today, including an armed robbery at the US Bank on Broadway in Riverton.
As of about 12:30 p.m., the suspect was still at large. Officials said an employee involved in the incident is OK.
Riverton Police Capt. Larry Prince said the suspect forced himself inside when the employee opened the bank around 7:30 a.m.
Details about the suspect or possible weapon involved have been kept under wraps. The FBI has taken over the investigation because it has jurisdiction over banks.
Most of the Riverton force was on the scene, which is about 25 officers. They were assisted by Fremont County sheriff's deputies and state troopers. Officers with semi-automatic guns could be seen patrolling the area and also stationed in a cherry-picker apparatus hanging above the bank.
Trinity Lutheran school, located behind the bank, went into lockdown mode and students were herded into the school's basement. Some parents elected to keep their children at home once they learned what was happening.
The school reopened as law enforcement dispersed about two hours later. But by mid-morning the school was closed for the day after officials learned the suspect remained at large.
While police were at the bank, they received a report that a man had pulled a hand gun on a cable employee who had been called to the residence for service. The gunman was identified as Ross Pliley. He was apprehended without incident and taken to jail.
The cable employee is a former Rawlins police officer, who tackled his attacker, called police and held the alleged gunman until law enforcement arrived.
Soon after that incident, a report came in about a student with a gun at Wyoming Indian School in Fort Washakie.
Riverton police say they heard the student was tackled and subdued before officers arrived. The incident is being investigated by the Wind River Police Department.
