Brandon Ewing is putting together a party.

And he's hoping there's a reason to celebrate.

Ewing, Wyoming's former standout guard and second-leading scorer all-time, hopes to hear his name during the second round of the NBA draft tonight.

"I'm renting out a place in downtown Chicago for me and the family," Ewing said. "We're going to watch the NBA Draft and if I'm lucky enough and blessed enough to get my name called, I'll probably hang out with [fellow draft hopefuls] Jerel McNeal and Jeremy Pargo after the draft.

"We're all hanging out together and we all have the same wish. We all want to play in the NBA, we just want to be blessed and hear our name called."

The Chicago native scattered his name throughout the UW record books in four seasons.

He's the school's leader in 3-pointers attempted and made and free throws attempted and made, and ranks in the top five in all-time steals, assists and games started.

But NBA teams have had questions about what position he'll play at the next level.

They're not sure about his skills as a point guard - he led the Mountain West Conference in assists last season but wasn't asked to be a true point guard until his junior year at UW. And they have questioned his lack of size as a shooting guard - Ewing is listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, but would likely only make those measurements if he was soaking wet and standing on the tips of his toes.

Those uncertainties may keep him from hearing his name tonight, though Ewing has had his fair share of workouts leading up to this week.

"My two best workouts were with the Sacramento Kings and the New Jersey Nets," Ewing said. "I worked out with probably a top-10 pick in Jrue Holiday, I worked out against him with the Sacramento Kings. I did real well and a lot of teams are intrigued by me."

Ewing would be the first Wyoming player drafted since the Detroit Pistons took Theo Ratliff with the 18th pick of the 1995 NBA Draft.

And while he's become more open to the possibility that he might go undrafted since he left Laramie, he's still got his hopes up.

And a party full of people will keep there fingers crossed, too.

"I'm a good basketball player and a good person," Ewing said. "Good things have always happened to me, so I'll just wait and see."
