LARAMIE -- If Heath Schroyer has his way, every Wyoming game will be like Saturday's 78-60 victory over Regis University.

Lots of players saw time on the floor, the scoring was balanced and the starters didn't have to carry the team all 40 minutes.

Even though Djibril Thiam, Afam Muojeke and JayDee Luster did the bulk of the work -- Thiam scored a game-high 24 points, Muojeke added 18 and Luster had eight and 11 assists -- five players had at least eight points and 10 players had double-digit minutes.

"For us to be good, we need to have six or seven guys right at eight points or more, and we were able to play 10 guys and I'll be kind of looking to do that all year," Schroyer said. " ... I've never been in a situation where I'm able to sit more than one or two starters for an extended period of time.

"I looked out there today and we had four starters sitting on the bench for three minutes, which was great. Then, when those guys got back in the game, they were ready to go."

When those starters got back in, the Pokes ran away with the game and put away the pesky Rangers.

An 11-0 run by the Pokes -- including two dunks by Thiam, one by Davis and another by Muojeke -- helped seal the game late in the second half, pushing a nine-point lead to 20.

There were struggles, but none outside the typical problems of an exhibition opener.

UW made just 19 of its 40 foul shots, missed a few easy scoring opportunities and struggled from long range, making just one of 10 3-pointers.

Schroyer wasn't sweating it.

"I'm not leaving here going, 'Oh my gosh,'" Schroyer said. "I'm leaving here like, 'Wow, we've got a chance to be pretty good.'"

Luster, the heir apparent to the graduated Brandon Ewing, exhibited a different style that helped free up his teammates on the fast break while also occasionally finding spots to score himself.

Luster's 11 assists and UW's 24 fast-break points -- compared to zero for Regis -- were also positives from which the Cowboys will build.

"[Luster's] game speaks for itself," Thiam said. "We've got to use him ... his speed on the court, we've got to utilize him all the time, get out and run."

Even if it wasn't perfect, the Cowboys showed enough flashes of what they want to see to be satisfied.
