Cheyenne will be well represented in the 2009 Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame class.
Led by Athlete of the Year Ashley Fornstrom and Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Tracy Ringolsby, this year's class also includes Ray Sanchez. All three graduated from Cheyenne high schools.
Fornstrom was a three-sport star at Cheyenne Central, leading the Indians to a state title in track in 2003 and one in basketball in 2005. She went on to an outstanding volleyball career at Colorado State and finished as the Mountain West Conference's all-time leader in assists with 5,371.
Ringolsby, a Cheyenne East graduate, is recognized as one of the top sports writers in the country. He has covered sports for the past 40 years, focusing on Major League Baseball for the last 33. In 2006, Ringolsby was inducted into the writers' section of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Sanchez was a four-time state champion for Central and finished with a record of 93-0. He later earned All-America honors wrestling for the University of Wyoming in 1967.
The three other inductees to this year's class are longtime Lusk football coach Bill Fullmer, rodeo great Marvin Garrett of Aladdin and former UW standout and NFL player Nick Bebout of Shoshoni.
The class was selected by the WSHOF Selection Committee and will be inducted into the WSHOF tonight in Casper.
