At Cheyenne, the Trojans broke out quick and led 42-27 at halftime to start the season with a victory, showing off their new run-and-gun style in the process.
"It was a pretty close game for the first three or four minutes," KW coach Scott Marietta said. "Then we got into a press… and really started running."
KW had four players in double figures, led by Cobi Eskew's 28.
The Trojans continue play in the McDonald's Invitational against Windsor, Colo., at 4:45 p.m. today.

At Cheyenne, the Trojans started strong defensively and took control for good in the second half, knocking off the Lady Plainsmen in the season opener for both teams.
"It was a great effort by our girls, especially on defense," KW coach Pat Scissons said. "It was a good way to start the season."
The Trojans also knocked down 21 of 26 free throws.
KW plays Cheyenne Central at 11:45 a.m. today in the second day of the McDonald's Invitational.

The Fillies won their season opener, getting a bit of revenge on the Thunderbirds, the team that knocked them out of the state tournament last year. But NC didn't get off to the best start.
"It was jitters," NC coach Doug Diehl said. "We came out and were really tight. Everybody wanted to perform so well and they didn't."
But the second quarter was a different story, as NC scored 25 points in the frame by taking over on the glass.
"We were really able to dominate the rebounds and we really took it to them with the offensive rebounds in that second quarter," Diehl said.
NC plays Cheyenne Central at 8:15 tonight.
