The Wyoming Cavalry cruised to another victory, beating the New Mexico Wildcats 80-34 late Thursday night at the Casper Events Center.
New Mexico (1-5) kept the game close through the first quarter and trailed 24-14 early in the second. Then the Cavs took over.
"They came out and played us tough right off the bat the last game," said Wyoming quarterback Matt Strand. "We just wanted to come out and jump on them again.
"New Mexico is a team that once you get up on them they start to fight as a team and they get down on themselves. So we just wanted to come out, get on top and make a statement, and we did a good job of that."
The Cavs (6-0) had a balanced offensive attack. Strand went 14 of 22 passing for 197 yards and six touchdowns. Running back James Jones rushed 10 times for 49 yards, including four touchdowns. Jones also returned a kickoff 49 yards for a touchdown.
The 34 points Wyoming allowed were a season high. The team previously hadn't allowed more than 30 points in a game and is giving up an average of 23.5 points. Defensive lineman Rodney Wasche led the Cavs with four sacks. The team made nine sacks.
The Cavs play at Arizona on Sunday. It is the first of three road games before the Cavs host Arizona on May 30.
