The Wyoming Calvary's offensive game plan is simple, the team wants to score as early and as often as possible.
In the Cavs' season opener the team easily accomplished its goal, beating the Utah Saints 81-29 last Saturday in the American Indoor Football Association debut for both teams.
Wyoming expects to face a tougher challenge in its home opener against the Arizona Adrenaline at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Casper Events Center.
The Adrenaline also had a blowout victory in their first game of the season, a 66-21 romp over the New Mexico Wildcats.
"I think it's going to be a pretty good game," said Cavs quarterback Matt Strand. " … I don't think it will be one-sided victories like we both had last week … I think it's going to be a close game."
Two keys to Wyoming's victory last week - and possible keys to victory today - were distributing the ball on offense and creating turnovers on defense.
The Cavs had eight touchdown receptions from five different players.
"It's kind of by committee, we just want to get it done," Strand said. "Whoever gets them, gets them, and if we can try to make sure that everyone gets one, that's what we'll try to do."
Against the Saints, Arthur Ireland, B.J. Charlton and Dante Dudley each had two touchdown receptions, while James Everage and Johnnie Young each had one.
"That is kind of what we do," Cavs coach Dan Maciejczak said. "We don't look at who the player is. We look at what route is going to be there and mix it up a lot. I want them to worry about four or five good receivers instead of one good one and three average ones."
While opposing defenses have to worry about multiple offensive threats, opposing offenses will have to worry about the Cavs' defensive front.
Wyoming forced 10 fumbles in their opener and recovered five of them. The team ran three of the recovered fumbles back for touchdowns.
"That's huge, anytime you can get a defensive score," Maciejczak said. "… In this game, it's just what you need in order to get that win."
Defensive end Tyrone Saterfield, who scored one of the defensive touchdowns, said he's not intimidated by what the Adrenaline did last week.
"It doesn't matter," Saterfield said. "They played New Mexico. They are going to play Wyoming this week. If we come out and play our game, we've got the victory."
