"One thing that I always share with people is you have to be willing to read. You can have letters after your name or degrees, but if you are unwilling to read, and chose not to open up your mind to that printed word, you will live a myopic life, that's all there is to it.

As tribal people, we not only have to read about who we are, but rewrite history about who we are.

Education is the thread through all parts of our life. If you read everyday you will be a wise person.

Life is discipline. I tell our young people they have to know who they are, who their relatives are, our ceremonies, our language - but at the same time we engage in a post modern world that says we have to live, work and play by these established rules and I am okay by that. Being on time is an indicator of discipline.

We have to love ourselves, our families and our humanity. We have so much work to do. In my philosophy, there is no retirement and I am 54 years young and I feel like I am 26 years old.

You give life your best. If you have discipline, love - and you read - you have given it your best. That's what it is about."
